Former Paris Junior College (PJC) baseball player Dylan Crooks was taken in the 15th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies. Since graduating from PJC in 2023, he played for the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, Oklahoma.
At PJC, Crooks was an integral part of the 2022 Conference Championship and 2023 Regional Championship teams before moving on to OU, where he has served as their closer.
At OU, he was named ABCA Second Team All-Region and Third Team All-American by Baseball America this past season, when he compiled a 1.69 ERA through 32 total innings pitched, striking out 33 and walking 10. He was one of 13 finalists for the 2025 Stopper of the Year Award by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association to honor the nation's top relief pitcher.
Crooks finished his Sooners career ranked second nationally and sixth in school history for career saves with 16. Those 16 saves were second in OU history for a single season.
This marks three out of the last four drafts that a current or former Dragon was selected by the MLB. Other PJC baseball players recently drafted include Beau Brewer by the New York Yankees in 2022 in the 19th round and Barrett Riebock in 2023 by the Cleveland Guardians in the 17th round.
